SCHOLARSHIP FULL DETAILS

The Open Gate Sangha Scholarship Fund is dedicated to offering the opportunity to attend retreat to those who would otherwise not be able to attend due to limited funds. In that spirit we invite those individuals to participate in our application process.

Before you begin your application, we ask you to review the details of the process outlined here. We also ask you to take some time to reflect on what moves you to attend retreat at this time, as well as to consider the nature of your financial need. Because we are able to offer only a limited number of scholarships, we ask you to apply only if you truly need financial assistance, so as to allow as many people as possible to receive scholarships. We also ask you to consider the level of your financial need when making your request for a full or partial scholarship.

The Open Gate Sangha Scholarship committee reviews and awards scholarship based on a number of criteria, including thoughtfulness of your application, availability of scholarship funds, applicant’s financial need, and any prior scholarships awarded to that applicant. Priority is given to those who have not previously received any financial support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Applying for Scholarship

2020 Retreats

If you choose to apply for a 2020 retreat scholarship, do not preregister for a retreat.

In order to apply for a scholarship, you must complete the online Retreat Scholarship Application form and submit it by the retreat scholarship application deadline.

Submit your completed application by the postmark deadline: JANUARY 15, 2020.

Scholarship notifications will be emailed within 1-2 weeks after the deadline. If you have missed the scholarship application deadline, please wait and apply for a scholarship for the next cycle of retreats in 2020.

Two Types of Retreat Scholarships

Partial Scholarships

A Partial Scholarship is an award equal to the program fee. Partial Scholarship recipients will be responsible for reserving and paying for their housing with the retreat site. Please only apply for a partial scholarship if you can afford to pay for your housing. You are also asked to only reserve housing up to the level of a double room, if available. Please do not reserve single room housing.

Retreat housing applications and instructions are emailed with the scholarship award letters; please do not contact the retreat site until you have received your award and instructions.

Full Scholarships

A Full Scholarship is an award equal to the program fee plus the least expensive indoor housing fee. In fairness to others, you will not be permitted to reserve housing at a higher level than offered by your scholarship. Please do not contact the retreat site until you have received your scholarship award confirmation with details about your housing included.

Retreat Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions

1. When will I find out if I received a retreat scholarship?
You will receive an email with our decision approximately 1-2 weeks after the application deadline.

2. Can I still apply for a retreat scholarship if I have missed the deadline?
No. If you have missed the application deadline, please wait and apply for the next retreat cycle.

3. Am I guaranteed a retreat scholarship?
No. A scholarship committee reviews the applications and makes decisions based on the applications and funds available.

4. If I do not get a scholarship, can I still be on the waiting list?
You can still be on the waiting list if you think you will be able to pay for the full cost of a retreat. Keep in mind that housing at the retreat site is subject to availability; your first choice may not be available. To put your name on the waiting list after the registration deadline, go to the retreat schedule and click on the retreat you’re interested in.
